SRC also has a museum on Ramanujan’s life and work. On 20th December 2003, the former President of India, His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, dedicated to Nation SRC and also the house in which Ramanujan lived in Kumbakonam, was purchased and maintained by SASTRA as an International Monument. His Excellency also declared open the Srinivasa Ramanujan house of Mathematics (a museum on Srinivasa Ramanujan).
Based on the recommendations of a high-level committee appointed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Government of India, Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre, established by SASTRA was declared as an OFF-CAMPUS CENTRE under the ambit of SASTRA Deemed University.
The Chennai campus of SASTRA is a symbol of SASTRA’s academic exploration into the realms of non-STEM education. The progressive plans to offer UG, PG & Ph.D. programmes in Economics, Public Policy, Journalism, Management, Commerce, Law, Digital Media, etc. provides learners a unique opportunity to experience the spirit of non-STEM education in a comprehensive ecosystem. The Chennai campus shall emerge to be an intellectual knowledge partner in the growing body of knowledge that shapes India’s global geo-political contours. With a blend of experienced and committed full-time/part-time/professor of practice and research scholars, this campus shall add new dimensions to SASTRA’s teaching & research landscape moving towards a truly multi-disciplinary university. The opportunities to collaborate with SASTRA’s other two campuses in Thanjavur & Kumbakonam, provide the coherent synergy to make this trio-campus architecture foundationally strong and next generational in its aspirational outcome. The learners at all levels will experience the making of a truly immersive and experiential curriculum & pedagogy that shall leave no stones unturned. The carefully designed programmes at all levels with flexible blend of specialisations make the academic journey whole & complete. Such a wholesome experience cannot come at a better time than now as India marches with confidence as a leader of sorts in the global comity of nations and the Chennai campus is a platform for learners to also join the march in their own progressive ways.
Admission Procedure:
Admissions to all programmes offered by SASTRA are strictly based on merit. Admission to the B.Tech. / 5-year Integrated MTech. programmes are conducted under the following two streams:
Stream 1 (based on JEE(Mains) score and 10+2 Marks) for 70% of seats
Stream 2 (based on 10+2 marks) for 30% of seats
Stream 1 Admission: Applicants under Stream 1 will be admitted to 70% of the seats based on JEE (Mains) scores and normalized +2 marks. The weightage for JEE Main scores and +2 marks will be 25% & 75% respectively. The aggregate JEE Main score and normalized +2 aggregate will be taken together as per the weightage and applicants will be ranked based on the resultant combined score. For example: If a student secures a JEE Main Score of 185 and a normalized +2 aggregate of 95%, the combined score of the student will be (0.25*185) + (0.75*95) = 117.5
The combined score of a student will be used to determine the SASTRA Rank and admission will be based on the SASTRA Rank secured. Total seats in Stream 1 is filled in the following method: (i) 20% (10%+10%) of intake is offered to the students from Trichy and Thanjavur Districts, provided the applicant has completed both X and XII from any school located in Trichy or Thanjavur District; (ii) 50% of the intake is offered to those who complete X and XII in schools within Tamil Nadu (Puducherry included) & (iii) the remaining 30% is for students who have completed X and XII in schools outside Tamil Nadu.
Stream 2 Admission: Applicants under Stream 2 will be admitted based on their normalized aggregate +2 or its equivalent marks. This is for 30% of the total seats. To bring all candidates from different examining authorities/ boards in the same scale of comparison and to create a list in the order of merit, the +2 or its equivalent aggregate marks will be normalized. A first rank student of each board is considered to have obtained 100% mark and aggregate mark of all other students of the board is normalized with reference to that of the first rank student. For example, if the first rank is 97% and an applicant’s aggregate is 90% then the applicant’s normalized percentage is 92.78 (90/97×100). A merit list is drawn based on the normalized percentage for making admissions for the 30% of the total seats. All India stream will be applicable as per Stream 1.
The rank list is published online within three hours from the deadline for submission of application. The applicants can access the counselling information through SMS or website and the seat matrix is constantly updated during the counselling sessions.
