National Institute of Technology Nagaland, a premier institute of higher learning, is one of the thirty-one institutes established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), now MOE Government of India. The basic aim of the Institute is to provide quality technical education, conduct original research of high standards and provide leadership in technological innovations for industrial growth and primarily for enhancing the scope of technical education in the state of Nagaland. The institute is fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. At present six undergraduate courses in Engineering namely Electronics & instrumentation engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Civil engineering and Mechanical engineering and four master courses namely Power System Engineering, VLSI systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Communication engineering, MSc (physics) and integrated MSc course B.S.M.S(Material Science) is running in the Institute.
NIT Nagaland provides separate hostels for boys & girls. The hostels are provided with all the basic facilities a student will need including geyser facility (only during winter), 24*7 water and electricity supply, purified drinking water, water cooler. All the hostels are provided with highspeed internet facility. Adequate bus facility has also been extended for commute of staff and employees staying outside the campus. NIT Nagaland is well equipped with state of art laboratories. Each department has its own laboratory and the laboratories are very well equipped with the instruments and the required lab materials. Students are fully free to work in the laboratory depending on their grades, even they have the facility to work in the laboratory after closing hours with special permission.
Students club and association are usually active in organizing various events and maintaining an eco-friendly environment in the Institute as well in society. Institute is currently processing to constitute few students’ club encompassing various aspects such as Eco club, Robotics club and literary club. The institute is equipped with sufficient sports facilities for several indoor and outdoor games for students and staff. In addition, Multigym facilities are also available. Ekarikthin is the annual techno-cultural festival of NIT Nagaland provides a platform to young nurturing talented youths to showcase their talents in various cultural and technical events. Which are singing and dance competitions, Mr and Mrs Ekarikthin competition of fashion show, battle of bands (annual rock contest) where artists from various parts of the country compete each other, literary contests loke quiz, debates, spell-bee are also organized. The technical contests include robotic contest, online coding, electra quest and various online events. Ekarikthin is the key to all sorts of fun and win a huge sum and acts as a platform to bring diverse culture and heritage of this nation on a single platform.
