National Institute of Technology Mizoram, an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament was established in the year 2010. NIT Mizoram is, at present, situated at Chaltlang, Aizawl. Aizawl is the capital city of Mizoram. Mizoram has a mild and pleasant climate. The temperature varies from a minimum 70C in the winter season to 300C in the summer season. The Institute is functioning from temporarily hired buildings at Chaltlang, Aizawl. The permanent campus of the Institute is coming up at Lengpui, Aizawl, near airport. The institute offers Ph. D. Programmes in Engineering, Science and HSS, M. Tech. Programmes in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Power Electronics & Drives (EEE), Microelectronics & VLSI System Design (ECE) and Thermal Engineering (ME) and UG Programmes leading to the degree of Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. All the departments are equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories.
National Institute of Technology Mizoram provides residential facilities for both boys and girls studying in the Institute. It has 4 boy hostels and one girl hostel. Mess is operated in each hostel which provides Breakfast, Lunch, Evening tea and Dinner.
To provide proper health care & in case of medical emergencies, the institute has leased out 2 (two) emergency vans for 24 hours & 7 days a week which are permanently deputed in the hostels along with a driver. In order to serve the diverse library needs of the Engineering Undergraduate, Post graduate, Research Scholars, the faculty members, and other library users the central digital library has collections of Textbooks, e-Books, Reference books, Conference proceedings, Annual report, Magazines and non-book material such as CD-ROMS etc.
Annual cultural fest “Anunaad” and technical fest organized every year. Annual newsletter-Infinity published every year. Various sports, photography club-Drishti and social clubs are also functional.
