On 18 March 2013, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India introduced a bill in the Parliament to establish 20 new Indian Institute of Information Technology’s in different parts of the Country. As per the bill, MHRD will establish the 20 new IIITs under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode partnering with respective state governments and industry partners. The new IIITs are envisaged to be Institutes of National Importance. Aimed at generating highly competent manpower of global standards for the Information Technology Industry, the institutes are also expected to act as major catalyst to develop new knowledge in the field of Information Technology. Indian Institute of Information Technology-Sonepat, Haryana is amongst 20 new IIITs approved by MHRD and started to intake students from 2014.
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sonepat (IIIT, Sonepat) is one of the IIIT started its academic session from its mentor Institute National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra from year 2014. IIIT Sonepat is a joint venture of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the Govt. of Haryana, with Industries in Public-Private Partnership model and has been declared as the Institute of national importance.
At IIIT Sonepat, we understand that finding comfortable and affordable accommodation is an important aspect of student life. Until the completion of construction for IIIT Sonepat’s permanent campus, the Institute has opted for transit hostels nearby the transit Campus at SBIT, Village Pallri, Sonepat, Haryana. The two hostels are at: CoHo hostel at Stanford International School Boys hostel at SBIT The construction of a permanent campus for IIIT Sonepat has started in an area of 50 acres at Village Kilohrad, Sonepat. Soon, the students will be shifted to hostels at Institute’s permanent campus. The hostels are given on first-come-first-serve basis and it is always the priority to arrange hostels for each student of the institution. The institute takes safety of its students as its top priority, taking this into consideration the Institute has arranged for a girl’s hostel at IIT Delhi Technopark. Faculty residence is also present in the same hostel building who takes care for the safety of girl students.
The IIIT Sonepat campus is equipped with a range of sports facilities, including a multi-purpose sports ground, indoor games like table tennis, carrom and chess, and a well-equipped gymnasium. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking to stay active, our sports programs offer a fun and challenging way to stay fit and healthy. IIIT Sonepat has a strong tradition of student bodies and clubs that attract students from all disciplines. There are technical Clubs for the Academically Inclined, Entrepreneurship cell to help nurture the budding spirit of start-ups and there are Cultural Clubs that give a student the opportunities in the fine arts, music, dance, theatre – everything that feeds the mind and spirit. Indeed, a student has much to look forward to on the IIITS Campus, besides classroom learning, laboratory practical sessions, or even regular dives into library shelves. There are several clubs that students can be a member of, take membership of in order to be part of the cultural landscape of the institute.
