Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Bhadohi

The Indian Institute of Carpet Technology popularly known as IICT, the only of its kind in Asia, has been set up by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India to provide much needed support to Textile, Carpet and allied Industries. The Institute is equipped with latest machines, plants, looms and other infrastructure for running the courses The Institute is affiliated to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University. Lucknow and is approved by A.I.C.T.E, Textile Institute, Manchester, UK, NABL Certified Laboratory.

The main thrust areas of the Institute are A) Human Resource Development B) Design Creation and Development, C) Research & Development and D) Technical Support Services to the Industry. The Institute is located in Bhadohi, which is 45 kms away from holy city Varanasi and 75 kms from Prayagraj, Allahabad and 30 kms from Mirzapur. The campus is spread over 10 acres of land comprising of state-of-the-art administrative building with space for Classrooms, Laboratories including Computer lab with 100 Mbps NKN Internet Link facility, Conference Hall, Library, Design Studio, Museum and Workshop. The campus is equipped with facilities like Residential accommodation for employees, Open Air Theatre for performing Cultural Activities, Open space for sports and games, Water supply and Generator system with 24 hours backup. There are mainly two hostels in the institute main campus. ‘Vivekananda Hostel (V.H.)’ for Boys students from 2nd to 4th year BTech and ‘Saraswati Bhawan (S.B.)’ exclusively for Girl’s students from 2nd to 4th year B.Tech. In addition to these hostels, we have two Transit Hostels (T.H.)., one is for first year Boys students, and another is for first year Girl’s students.

IICT offers regular course in BTech in carpet and Textile Technology which is started in the year 2001. Thereafter, specializations in Advances in Carpet Technology (ACT), Home Textile technology (HTT), Textile Design Technology (TDT) have been integrated to BTech with the due approval of GB technical University, Lucknow. Besides, it also offering several short-term courses based on the industry needs. Modular Employable Skill (MES) based skill development program in Application of Computer and IT in Carpet Manufacturing, Carpet and Textile design using CAD, Yarn dyeing, Carpet weaving, spinning of woollen yarn, Washing & Finishing of Carpet are being run by the institute. More than 8000 artisans have been trained so far to mitigate the skill gap.

IICT created design bank where more than 15000 designs are in place out of which around 3500 designs have been utilized by industry for commercial purpose. 114 new designs have been created under design bank. The Design Bank includes Traditional Indian Motifs (Like-Harappa, Ajanta, Mughal, Rangoli, Jaipuri, Fulkari, Kantha, Paithani, Kalamkari, Banarasi, Jamewar etc.), modern motifs etc. as per trend. Industry at large has come forward and taken advice and benefitted from design bank, creativity and development of global value at local cost.

IICT is also involved in various projects under HRD, DCD, R&D, marketing and technology developments schemes, sponsored by O/o DC (HC), New Delhi. Placement drives is an integral part of our institute as it endows the opportunities to the students to get employment in the well-known and esteemed organizations.
