The Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai is a unique Institute which was established on 1st October 1933 as a University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), by the University of Bombay, completing 89 years of glorious past. ICT has created its own brand over the years which has been recognized by several prestigious awards and accolades to the faculty, students, and alumni individually and also as an institute. Under the World Bank’s Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), ICT was granted full autonomous status in 2004 and declared as Deemed-to-be University on September 12, 2008, by the MHRD under Section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956. It was bestowed an Elite Status and Centre of Excellence on par with IITs, IISc, and IISERs in the State Assembly on April 20, 2012, by the Maharashtra Govt. based on its stellar performance on par with the institutes of national importance. The genesis of ICT Mumbai is truly educative and its achievements are inspirational.
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd took a historic decision to support fully a campus of ICT in Bhubaneswar. This is the first of its kind in India where a corporate house has decided to support innovative education and research under its CSR policy to create manpower and job opportunities and entrepreneurs and skill development Centres in Eastern India. The campus is equipped with modern equipment for carrying out high class research and innovation at Centres of Excellence to develop technology and to support Research & Development in industry and Skill Development in Chemical Engineering, Petrochemicals, Textiles, Polymers, Pharmaceuticals, Energy, etc. The nation at large will benefit from this initiative.
On March 2018, ICT for the first time crossed the confines of Maharashtra when the institute inaugurated the “ICT Mumbai Indian Oil Odisha Campus” at Bhubaneswar on 18th March 2018, at the hands of the President of India, Honourable Shri. Ram Nath Kovind, in the presence of Honourable Shri. S. C. Samir, Governor of Odisha, Honourable Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and distinguished bureaucrats, academicians, industry stalwarts, and citizens. The Institute has signed MOU with IIT Kharagpur for collaborating in various research activities. The foundation stone laying ceremony for the permanent campus was happened on 20th August 2021.
ICT-IOC offers Integrated MTech for the undergraduates besides two-year MTech and PhD Programmes. The placement of students from the first batch of Integrated MTech, Two Year MTech, and PhD scholars has also been progressing well in leading and globally renowned industries and academic institutions in India and abroad.
ICT-IOC, at present, operates from its campus at IIT Kharagpur Extension Centre, Gajpati Nagar. Thus, accommodation with mess and other facilities are arranged for both girls and boys in the Khosla hostel. The hostels have a 24×7 internet facility, common room, and other recreational facilities. Institute had a tie-up with leading hospitals to get tertiary health care for students at Bhubaneswar city. An Institute bus is available for daily movement from the hostel to the academic campus. Institute has various clubs such as Technical Association, AIChE Student Chapter, Light’s Students Chapter, etc. which arrange various cultural and sports events timely. It has organized many events and festivals like Spardhaa a sports fest, STEMulus an outreach program for school students besides blood donation camp, world environment day, tree plantation etc.
