Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology was established in the year 1987 as Regional Engineering College and was given the status of National Institute of Technology (Deemed University) by the Government of India on October 17, 2002 under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi (Ministry of Education). Government of India has declared the Institute as “Institute of National Importance” under the act of Parliament-2007. A large number of reputed Industrial houses in the country visit the Institution and select the final year students as Engineers/ Management Trainees. As one of the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), the Institute has the responsibility of providing high quality education in Engineering, Technology and Sciences to produce competent technical and scientific manpower for the country. The Institute offers BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA and PhD programmes in the several disciplines of engineering, technology and Sciences.
To support the entrepreneurial pursuits of Faculty, Students, Alumni & others, Technology Business Incubation Centre was set up with the support of Department of Science & Technology in 2015. Implementing flexible curriculum in all departments. Established Centre for Continuing Education in 2018. Total intake in institute increased from 786 to 906, which finally increased to 1135 after the implementation of EWS and supernumerary seats. Institute also offered Self sponsored seats in for all departments was started. Internal ranking of departments was introduced. Ranked 46th in Engineering Ranking and 72nd in Overall Ranking- NIRF. Placed in the band of 11th-50th rank in the ARIIA rankings by Ministry of Education. Ranked 29th among India’s Best engineering colleges by MDRA
The Campus of NITJ is quite beautiful. There is enough greenery in the campus. It has a big ground, basketball court, volleyball court, badminton courts in hostels. The IT building and administrative blocks are also good to look at. Hostel facility is good food is also good. There are a total 6 small hostels along with 3 mega hostels 3 are under construction. There are separate mess for vegetarian and non-vegetarian students and they have option as well special food is offered twice a week. The campus has a very large gym as well.
Utkansh & Techniti, the cultural & technical fests of NITJ attract colleges from the whole of North India. You get a lot of opportunity to participate in various fun & technical activities during these fests
