The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) came into existence on August 08, 2011 and was established under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No.25 of 2009 read with the Central Universities Act, 2009). The first academic session (2011-2012) commenced with three post graduate courses in English, Economics and Applied Mathematics at temporary academic block-1 (TAB-1) at sidhra bypass road, Jammu and at present university is offering various undergraduate/ Postgraduate/ PhD/ Diploma/Certification programmes through its University Departments and Centres.
The University is fully functional from its permanent campus located at Village Rahya-Suchani (Bagla) in District Samba of Jammu & kashmir approximately 24 km away from the Jammu-Tawi Railway Station, 25 km from the Jammu Airport, and around 7 km from the National Highway. The campus is well connected through local and state transport. Central University of Jammu epitomizes an inclusive and pluralistic institution of higher learning.
University is offering 54 courses which includes Diploma, Certificate, Integrated, Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Ph.D. programmes in various Schools of Study, to name a few – Life Sciences, Basic and Applied sciences, Engineering., Business Studies, Education, Knowledge Management and Media studies, Literature and Languages, National Security Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences.
University provides accommodation to the students coming from various parts of the country. There is a limited hostel accommodation in hired buildings which are affordable and close to the current setup based on merit and distance. At present there are two hostels for boys and two for girls. The hostel life is culturally vibrant and socially secure. Wi-fi facility on the campus and in hostels, an automated library, basic sports infrastructure, yoga classes, clubs and interactive sessions with substantial focus on placements makes CUJ the most sought-after institution.
Various co-curricular activities are organized such as community development and awareness programmes. Other activities like NSS, NCC, blood donation camp, youth festival, digital India workshops and annual cultural festival Udaan where students showcase their talents. E-Sports club will serve as platform to come together and engage in competitive gaming, develop valuable skills and build a community.
