It was established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, and was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred University status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001. IT was established with the aim of providing quality higher education on par with international standards. Mode of Admission:
Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes in VIT group of Institutions. The duration of the examination will be 2 hours and 30 minutes. Candidates can appear only once for VITEEE. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions and one mark for the right answer and zero for the wrong answer. There will be a total of 125 questions divided into the section Maths/Biology (40 questions), Physics (35 questions), Chemistry (35 questions), Aptitude (10 questions), and English (5 questions). The question paper will be in English only. The fee towards application and subsequent counselling is non-refundable. The method of Equi-percentile is adopted for the merit list preparation of VITEEE-Computer Based Examination.
Eligibility criteria:
Applicants who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination with grade/CGPA converted to percentage.
For Indian Nationals appearance in VITEEE 2024 is mandatory to be eligible for B. Tech. admission.
Nationality

Age Limit
- Applicants whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 2002 are eligible to apply for Engineering admission 2024.
- The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC / X Certificate will be considered authentic.
- Applicants should produce this certificate in original as proof of their age at the time of counselling/admission, failing which their candidacy for admission will be disqualified.
Qualifying Examination
Applicants applying for UG Engineering admission should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2024, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
- The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi), The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi.
- Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. (Physics & Mathematics – HL, Chemistry – SL)
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- Regular ‘NIOS’ board candidates are also eligible for Undergraduate Engineering programmes. Applicants should produce the Migration Cum Transfer Certificate at the time of joining.
Qualifying Examination Performance
- Applicants applying for the Undergraduate Engineering admission should have secured minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).
- Applicants applying for the Undergraduate Engineering admission should have passed with minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate) for the following categories:
- Applicants belonging to SC/ST
- Applicants hailing from Jammu and Kashmir/ Ladakh and the Northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. Certificate to prove community / nativity should be produced at the time of counselling, failing which they will not be considered for admission.

- PCMB/PCM applicants who have attempted Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Aptitude in VITEEE are eligible for all B. Tech Programmes.
- PCMB/PCB applicants who have attempted Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Aptitude in VITEEE & PCB applicants who have attempted Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Aptitude in VITEEE are eligible only for the following programmes:
- B.Tech. Biotechnology (VIT, Vellore)
- B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (Bioinformatics) VIT, Vellore
- B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) VIT, Vellore
- B.Tech. Bioengineering (VIT-Bhopal)
- B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (Health Informatics) VIT-Bhopal
Selection Criteria:
- Selection is based on the rank secured through CBT (Computer Based Test) VITEEE 2024.
- Selected candidates can participate in online counselling based on their ranking. They can give options for specific campus, programme and category of fees. Allotment will be based on the matching of the rank obtained and available options.
- Candidates with rank up to 1 Lakh are eligible for counselling to Vellore and Chennai campus.
- VIT will verify the eligibility of candidates after completing the tuition fee payment on or before the stipulated date. Candidates are required to produce documents on the day of coming to the campus or as and when asked for, by the Office of Admissions. Provisional Admission offered during counselling will be valid ONLY if the eligibility is fulfilled.
Fee Structure:
Tuition fee for Group A BTech courses such as Bioengineering, Chemical, civil, Biotechnology, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Fashion Technology etc. Rs.1,73,000. Caution deposit Rs.3,000 (one-time, refundable) for all Group A and B programs. In Total Rs.1,78,000 per annum for Category 1. While for Group B Programs tuition fee is Rs.1,95,000 and the total fee Rs.1,98,000 including Caution deposit. For Bhopal campus BTech programs tuition fee is Rs.1,98,000. Hostel and Mess charges vary as per sharing, a/c or non a/c, apartment and non-apartment. As fees are subject to annual escalation, kindly refer the official website for more updates on fee structure.
For VITEEE counselling there are five categories of tuition fees structure it varies as per your VITEEE rank, preferred branch and campus. In category 1st the tuition fee will be minimum and in category 5th the tuition fees will be maximum.
Branches like CSE, ECE, Mechanical, Information technology etc are in Group B. These branches have tuition fees in category 1st 1.98 lakh per annum and in category 5th 4.90 lakh per annum. The VITEEE 2023 cutoff rank for category 1st to 5th range from 928 to 28,000 maximum to get CSE. For CSE specializations, cutoff range is 2800 to 31000 at Vellore campus. For CSE at Chennai Campus, 4,000 to 34000 is the cutoff from category 1 to category 5. For CSE specializations at Chennai Campus, the range is 7500 to 42000. The VITEEE 2023 cutoff rank for ECE is 4,000 to 61,000, EEE is 6,000 to 66,000, Mechanical is 3,000 to 92,000 at Vellore campus. The VITEEE 2023 cutoff rank for ECE is 10,000 to 72,000, EEE is 13,500 to 80,000, Mechanical is 3,500 to 1,20,000 at Chennai campus.
Branches like Civil engineering, biotechnology, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and instrumentation, chemical engineering etc are in Group A. These branches have tuition fees in category 1st 1.78 lakh per annum and in category 5th 3.98 lakh per annum. For other BTech branches other than above mentioned cutoff range is 45,000 to 1,45,000.
