The Indian Institute of Information Technology Raichur (IIITR) was established in 2019 as a centre of academic excellence in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology. Though being a budding institute, IIITR offers various facilities to students without compromising on quality. IIITR is an institute of national importance, formed under the Public Private Partnership model, with contributions from Ministry of Education, Government of India and the Government of Karnataka and industry partner. The academic activity of the institute commenced in August 2019 from the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Telangana, with its first batch being admitted to Bachelor of Technology, Computer Science and Engineering. Then, in September 2021, IIIT Raichur shifted to the Transit in GEC Yermarus Camp, Raichur, Karnataka, where all academic activities are currently taking place.
IIT Hyderabad mentored IIIT Raichur from August 2019 to November 2022 and oversaw its complete functioning, including administration, teaching, new campus planning, etc. The transit campus is equipped with academic and administrative buildings, as well as separate hostels for boys and girls. Starting Aug 2023, the institute started offering another B.Tech program in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science.
The permanent campus of IIIT Raichur is currently under construction and will soon become operational in a few years.
IIITR is an abode of creativity and innovation, ready to show the world what it is capable of with its highly esteemed and able faculty, modern curriculum and a batch of bright-minded individuals passing out. With core subjects being incorporated from the first semester itself, the students can finish their courses quite early and focus on developing projects and industry-relevant skills.
IIITR also offers an adequate hostel facility with already furnished rooms that are regularly maintained. The hostel facilities at IIITR are very good. IIITR has a common Dining facility for all its students inside the campus premises. To address the needs of the students related to the regular academic coursework at IIIT Raichur, the library at IIITR contains multiple copies of standard textbooks and reference books.
IIIT Raichur firmly believe that academic development of the students must be complemented by overall growth of the young minds, including the mental, psychological, social, and emotional aspects of well-being. Therefore, several initiatives on the mental and physical health and safety of all the students at IIIT Raichur have been taken up at the institute. IIIT Raichur is a wonderful place to explore, learn, and show what you are. Extracurricular and club activities are integral to a student’s life and are crucial for the student’s all-around/overall development. IIIT Raichur provides a platform for students to organize and participate in different events and clubs. IIIT Raichur has clubs ranging from technical clubs to cultural clubs, which maximizes the participation of students with different interests. Technical clubs are Codesoc (coding club), Electrogeeks (robotics club) and the Cultural clubs are Xposure (Photography Club), Finesse (Cultural Club), EBSB, NSS, NSO etc.
