The National Institute of Technology Goa (NIT Goa) is a premier technical Institute of the region. NIT Goa was established in the year 2010 by an act of parliament (NIT act 2007) and it is declared as ‘Institute of National Importance’. NIT Goa is an autonomous Institute and functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), now MOE Govt. of India. The campus is located at Farmagudi, Ponda approximately 29 km southeast of Panaji, the capital of Goa and it is a temporary campus. The state of Goa is well connected by road ways, rail ways and air ways with various parts of the country.
The Institute offers under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in Five Engineering Departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The Institute also offers PhD in all the mentioned engineering departments as well as in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and English.
The Institute admits students into the B. Tech degree program on the basis of ranks obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE(Main) and the scheme of Direct Admission to Students Abroad (DASA). Total Intake of B.Tech. in NIT Goa is 216, out of which 188 is through JoSAA/CSAB and 28 through DASA. For M. Tech Programme, the Institute admits students through valid GATE score followed by CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M. Tech Admissions). Each department is offering 20 seats for the said programme, out of which 18 seats will be filled up through CCMT and the remaining 2 seats are meant for the sponsored candidates.
NIT Goa is providing hostel facilities to outstation students with shared accommodation in the campus. So far, the existing hostels are provided with the basic amenities like mess and Wi-Fi internet connectivity. NIT Goa is having highly qualified faculty from IITs, NITs and reputed universities. The institute is functioning from its own campus consisting of sufficient class rooms and laboratories. All the class rooms are modernized with projector and required electronic equipment. NIT Goa is having well established laboratories in all the existing branches and also continuously engaged in enriching it as per the academic requirements. Each of the laboratories is attended by Technicians and Technical assistants along with the concern faculty. We also ensure availability of required text books in the library. As a part of extra academic activities, NIT Goa has conducted several workshops in their respective departments to enlighten its students and also aims to continue it in future.
NIT Goa was carried out various sports programmes successfully with the support and guidance of beloved Director. Institute Sports Officer is taking care of sports and other co-curricular activities happens in Institute and it was successfully done since inception of the Institute. Sports like football, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, carom, throwball, chess and athletics are commonly happenings in the institute. Institute has represented in various games in All India Inter NIT Tournament and medals awarded in athletics. Cultural events for the students also a main attraction and our students won in national level Drama competition in All India Inter NIT Cultural events. The talent and ability of students are up to mark and it will continue to maintain the same in future. Support from teaching faculties and other staffs towards sports and cultural events are most remarkable in NIT Goa.
