After allocation of seats through JoSAA and CSAB Special Round, some seats will remain vacant as candidates who were allotted seats didn’t join the institute. The seats that left vacant in IITs, NITs and IIITs will be kept vacant during entire year or will be used for branch upgradation for the students of same institution on the basis of their 1st year performance.
To fill such vacant seats, a Spot Round of Counselling will be conducted by some institutes (GFTIs) at institutional level. Candidates with a valid JEE Main rank are eligible to apply. Allotment will be as per merit based on the JEE Main rank.
Spot rounds are not held every year, but their occurrence depends on various factors, including the availability of vacant seats in GFTIs, the demand for specific courses, and the overall admissions process

- Purpose: Spot rounds are typically conducted to fill any remaining vacant seats in GFTIs after the completion of the main counselling rounds of JoSAA and CSAB Counselling for undergraduate programs. They help ensure that all available seats are filled.
- Eligibility: Eligibility criteria for spot rounds, including minimum qualification requirements and document verification, are usually announced by the GFTIs or the respective admission authorities. Students who meet these criteria are eligible to participate.
- Application Process: Students who wish to participate in a spot round need to apply during the specified application period. The application process may include registration, choice filling and locking preferences for available seats.
- Seat Allotment: After the application deadline, seat allotment is conducted based on the choices and preferences submitted by the candidates. Seats are allocated on a merit basis, considering factors like JEE Main rank, category, and availability.
- Admission: Students who are allotted seats in the spot round must confirm their acceptance, pay the required fees, and complete the admission process as specified by the GFTIs or the admission authorities.
- Counselling Fees: Applicants may need to pay counselling or spot round fees as part of the admission process.
- Important Dates: The schedule for spot rounds, including application dates, seat allotment dates, and admission dates, is typically announced separately and may vary from year to year.
